Angela's Pulse: Fishtrap Method Workshop

-

Paloma McGregor, co-founder and artistic director of Movement Lab's Company-in-Residence Angela's Pulse, leads us in an interactive workshop rooted in story-telling and building community. The Fishtrap Method is a collaborative creative process developed by McGregor as part of her decade-long exploration of her father's vanishing fishing tradition and three driving questions that emerged after she left her ancestral home, St. Croix: What do we take with us? Leave behind? Return to Reclaim? McGregor has been honing myriad processes - including writing, moving, story telling, map making and breaking bread - in order to elicit personal voice and develop connective tissues between people, places and practices. This workshop will give a peek into her process. Come prepared to move, write, laugh, wonder and be seen.

Participants should bring:

  • Something to write with
  • Clothes to move in
  • An object or photo that has cultural/familial/personal significance

This is a BIPOC-centered space.
To keep an intimate gathering, attendance will be capped at 30 people.

Our programming is free and open to the public. Please RSVP to participate.

Note from Paloma about Image: This stairwell is all that remains of the home my 94-year-old father grew up in. The home burned down fifteen years ago. For the past decade,  have paid off the back taxes and gotten the deed. I want to clean up this property for my own visioning and for the benefit of longtime neighbors like Ms. Solomon, who grew up with my father, and Ms. Oyone, who babysat me as a child. I spent 5 hours clearing trash from the site so I could host witnesses. This performed sweeping embodies my larger intention to reclaim this land.
