These are examples of reference works where you can find overviews and background information on your text and topic.

  • The print reference books listed here are located in several places in Butler Library. Most Butler reference books are in rooms 301 or 310. Look for the location information in the CLIO records below, and check out the call number guide to the Butler reference collection (PDF file).
  • When you come across useful words, concepts, keywords and names related to your topic, make a note of them to use in further searching.
  • Keep a careful record of where you find useful ideas or quotes.
  • Scholarly reference works like these can be cited in your paper.
