In the latest versions of Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer, the Quicksearch on the library homepage sometimes fails to load because it is not recognized as “secure content.”

To prevent phishing, these browsers now block “mixed content” by default  – that is, secure (HTTPS) and non-secure (HTTP) content on the same page.  It will happen in Courseworks (which is a secure site) if you try to load any content that isn’t secure, for example, a Research Guide or Library Reserves.

To warn you, in Firefox and Chrome there is a little grey shield that appears next to the URL, and in IE a pop-up appears at the bottom of the screen.  To view the non-secure content in Firefox or Chrome, click on the little grey shield, and in IE click on “Show All Content” in the pop-up box.
