BLAIS Communications fellow 2016/17: Elvis Bakaitis

November 8, 2016

Elvis Bakaitis is super excited to be a BLAIS Communications Fellow for the 2016/17 academic year!

Elvis is a recent graduate of the MLIS program at Queens College, where they obtained a Certificate in Archives & Special Collections. They've interned at Brooklyn College & the Lesbian Herstory Archives, and are always up for a conversation about obscure historical topics. Here at Barnard, they've been exploring yearbooks & student diaries from the early part of the 20th century, with an eye to the rich culture of female homosociality & so-called "romantic friendships."

They are also a cartoonist & zine evangelist (many of their minicomics are in our zine library), always happy to spread the good word about how cool zines can be. Elvis, along with Kate Angell, founded the NYC Feminist Zinefest in 2012, which is still going strong and now heading into its 5th year (4th hosted at Barnard).
