Due to COVID-19, Barnard Library is closed until further notice, with continuing of select library services. Please understand there may be interruptions in service as we support staff in this challenging time. Reach out to library@barnard.edu about course reserves, materials renewals, or fines and other questions, and refdesk@barnard.edu for research consultations and library instruction. See the IMATS site for assistance with distance learning.

The new Barnard Library policy entails the forgiveness of fines accrued on Barnard Library Materials. If the fined Barnard item is returned, Operations Team staff members working the Circulation & Help Desk will forgive those fines. If the fined Barnard item has been lost, you can still reach out to library@barnard.edu for fine forgiveness. Annually, Quincy Williams clears fines for graduating seniors after receiving that list from the Registar's Office. Otherwise, fines are cleared based on request

With studies showing that library fines do not increase return rates of lost materials, this program, like many others across the nation, is part of a movement away from library fines. Through this new policy based on a student's request, the Barnard Library strives to support student success by committing to the accessibility of library materials.

Unfortunately, the Barnard policy does not extend to Columbia Libraries as of now. For more information, visit this site or email library@barnard.edu.
