Marya McQuirter and Zakiya Collier, Archives Specialists, Presented at 2 Events in October!

On October 27, Zakiya Collier, Archives Processing Specialist who is working this year in the Barnard Archives, co-organized and presented at the Archives for Black Lives event at the Weeksville Heritage Center. The full-day workshop is a part of Weeksville's The Legacy Project and connected oral historians and archivists with community members to discuss the importance of Black lives and experiences and to empower the community to preserve their histories.

 

 

On October 31, Marya McQuirter, Digital Archives and Metadata Specialist who is working this year in the Barnard Archives, participated in the African American History, Culture, and Digital Humanities Conference at the University of Maryland. The conference has as its framing questions, "What happens to digital humanities inquiry when we begin with black culture, thought, and persons at the center of our endeavors? How does this challenge and expand both the humaniities and the digital?" The conference proceedings are available on YouTube.
