Meredith Wisner reports back on visual literacy workshop at the ICP!

February 28, 2017

Barnard Art & Architecture Librarian Meredith Wisner recently attended Learning to Look and Looking to Learn: A Workshop on Visual Literacy, at the International Center of Photography (ICP).

The workshop was based on the ICP's current exhibition, "Perpetual Revolution: The Image and Social Change," which focuses on "six topics that are currently shaping and/or being shaped by visual culture today: #backlivesmatter, gender fluidity, terrorist propaganda, the alt-right, and the refugee crisis."

As Wisner explains, "The images displayed really run the gamut (high art to social media, documentary to creative expression, still images to video installations, self-created representations to studio shot and photographer driven)," and are drawn from "the ICP's deep collection of social justice motivated photographic work."

Check out the exhibition for yourself: it's on view until May 7th, 2017!
