DIY Syllabi as Gifts is a chance for seniors* to explore what makes us excited about learning, what we’ve gained throughout our time at Barnard, and what we really want to teach each other, even as we move on to a world where learning no longer becomes our primary focus. The syllabus idea was born of a dream to keep in touch with learning after college, but and to maintain learning communities with friends, even after we graduate.
DIY syllabi can be the outlet you've always hope for to share your passion about the Haunted House Novel, The Architecture of Barnard and Columbia, Dendrochronology, Queerness in Shakespearean Performance, Punk History, etc. as well as a building block for staying in touch with those you worry you will miss.
January 29 is our kickoff session, where we’ll talk about ways to approach writing syllabi and formatting them like zines, and to start brainstorming what you might want to create! If you like, bring along a syllabus for one of your classes this semester.
Event schedule:
Intro Session: January 29, 6:00-8:00pm | The CEP, 1st floor Milstein | Register
Zine Making: February 29, 6:30-8:00pm & April 19, 2:00-4:00pm
Zine Fair: April 26, 1:00-4:00pm
*This series was created with seniors in mind, but students from all classes are welcome to participate. In the unlikely event that interest exceeds capacity, seniors will be prioritized. After that, it's first come, first served.
