Barnard Library is open for seating and access to stacks for Barnard and Columbia students, staff, and faculty. Read more about our hours or current Barnard Library services. Questions? Reach out to the virtual circulation & help desk or library@barnard.edu

You now have a few ways to sign up for a limited edition New York Public Library (NYPL) card! All Barnard students are eligible for a free library card.

  • Online (only if physically in New York State, and you’ll need to stop by a branch some time for the actual card)
  • At any NYPL branch (bring your student ID)
  • Or with a Barnard Personal Librarian! PLs all have NYPL cards in our offices and can sign you up on the spot (your card won’t be active for a week though)

The NYPL has 92 locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island, with items that can be shipped directly to the branch of your choice for easy pick-up! (The closest branches to Barnard are the Morningside Heights and George Bruce branches.)

The NYPL has more than 6 million items circulating, including books, e-books, audiobooks, music, and movies. Thank you to our friends at the George Bruce branch for working with us to make on-campus card signups happen!
