(1) Post Baccalaureate Fellowship - The Digital Humanities Center (DHC)

The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program is a research and career development opportunity for Barnard graduating seniors. The Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) that allows for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning, and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies using digital humanities methods and platforms. The DHC Post Baccalaureate Fellow will work with DHC staff to create and teach workshops, support courses, host events, and more. The Fellow will also develop and direct their own research project on environmental justice or a similar topic.

  • Contribute to an inclusive and diverse Digital Humanities Center
  • Develop a research project on sustainability, environmental history, environmental justice, or a similar topic that can be shared on the DHC website as an example of how digital technologies can enhance research in the humanities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and DHC
 staff on digital humanities projects
  • Design and conduct workshops for courses to expand training in the Digital Humanities at Barnard

  • Train student assistants who will provide direct support for students and courses
  • Develop tutorials, with DHC students, on how to use digital tools in research and teaching
  • 
Identify and evaluate digital scholarship tools and methodologies in support of teaching, research, and creative activities in digital scholarship

  • Research new developments in digital technologies and equipment and ensure that the DHC makes available the best technologies for research and teaching.

  • 
With the DHC Staff develop and support public and campus programming in the Digital Humanities

  • Maintain and update the DHC website
  • Create and manage DHC communications through the DHC blog, Twitter, and other social media

  • Participate in conferences, remote conversations, and transnational research opportunities in the humanities

(2) Post Baccalaureate Fellowship - Media Center

Barnard College has launched the Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program, a learning and career development opportunity for graduating seniors. The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) consisting of various placements that allow for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies, digital scholarship, creative writing, etc.

1. Support the Elsie K. Sloate Media Center

  • Work closely with the Director of the Elsie K. Media Center to understand the studio reservations system and train users on using studio equipment
  • Work closely with the Director in the development and implementation of workshops on production and post-production equipment and software
  • Assist with the development and implementation of workshops for faculty and students to support curriculum
  • Consult and assist with equipment ordering

2. Original content creation and research

  • Create media and research projects through their own initiative, with supervision and guidance from Director
  • Assist with research design and implementation of new media equipment and tools

3. Outreach and relationships

  • Represent the Media Center in the cohort of Library Post-Baccs, supporting the collection and archiving of projects
  • Program and support events sponsored by the Media Center, such as film screenings or film festival partnerships

(3) Post Baccalaureate Fellowship - Empirical Reasoning Center (ERC)

Post Baccalaureate Fellowship- Empirical Reasoning Center (ERC), Milstein Center for Teaching & Learning. Under the direction of the Faculty Director and the Associate Director, the Fellow will support the ERC’s ongoing programming and the development and coordination of expanded services.

  • Contribute to developing and delivering programming for the ERC, including stand-alone workshops and special events in collaboration with other campus units at Barnard (e.g., Beyond Barnard and Alumnae Relations) and Columbia (e.g. the Center for for Spatial Research)
  • Provide data analysis and visualization support for courses across a wide range of disciplines and special projects, such as COOL grants and Barnard Teaches
  • Provide one-on-one or small group consultations with faculty and students on data analysis, with programs such as (but not limited to): Excel, R, ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.
  • Develop training tutorials on how to use a wide range of programs such as (but not limited to): Excel, R, ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.
  • Manage the ERC’s social media accounts including, but not limited to: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.
  • Develop content and edit submissions for ERC digital publications featuring student work and student-contributed articles on empirical topics
  • Coordinate services with staff

(4) Post Baccalaureate Fellowship - Design Center

The Post Baccalaureate Fellowship program is a research and career development opportunity for 2019 graduates. The Fellowship is a one-year program (with the possibility of renewal) consisting of various placements that allow for the development of professional career skills, on-going technical and workplace learning, and an opportunity to apply subject matter expertise to new technologies, digital scholarship, creative writing, etc. All fellows engage together as part of a cohort in on-going professional development and learning from Beyond Barnard in collaboration with the Office of Human Resources.

  • Develop an independent design/making focused research project or an area of inquiry and expertise that utilizes the technologies of the Design Center and prepare public presentations and workshops on this research.
  • Support the operations of the Design Center; includes staffing and collaborating with Design Center team.
  • Assist with development and implementation of workshops on tools, safety, resources and best practices.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of workshops for faculty and students to support curriculum.
  • Develop expertise in fabrication and making; learn to implement and identify new technologies and assist with management of the Center toolset.
  • Represent the Design Center in the Post-Baccalaureate cohort, contribute to the collection and archiving of post-baccalaureate research projects, and support the collection and archiving of the work of the Design Center.
  • Support communication between maker services on campus and across the University.
