Elana Altman
I manage and support technology services that relate to teaching, learning, and research, with a particular eye toward UX design and digital accessibility. This encompasses leading our support for CourseWorks (Canvas), Zoom, and other educational technologies; piloting and assessing new software; designing web projects in collaboration with instructors; teaching workshops on web design; and creating technology-based services for Barnard Library. I'm always happy to chat about new collaborations and ideas, so please feel free to reach out to me at ealtman@barnard.edu.
Recently, I've been focused on the role of generative AI in higher education and helping lead generative AI initiatives across campus. This has included co-hosting our monthly Generative AI Learning Community, co-authoring A Framework for AI Literacy with my colleagues, creating our ChatGPT CourseWorks module, and many other projects.
Before joining Barnard, I held a variety of creative and strategic roles within the media and publishing industries. From designing a digital almanac for Scholastic to researching internet readership trends at the Associated Press, my background has given me a broad understanding of how people use the internet to understand the world around them. I have a BA from Wellesley, and an MBA from Vanderbilt.
