Tara Hart

Tara Hart serves as Director of the Barnard Archives & Special Collections, where she oversees the long-term stewardship, accessibility, and ethical care of materials documenting Barnard College and broader histories of feminist activism, art, and scholarship. She collaborates with students, faculty, staff, alums, and a global community of researchers, and is available for classroom instruction and individual consultations.

Before joining Barnard in June 2026, Tara held archival positions across New York City, including Head Archivist at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Digital Archivist at the New Museum, and Assistant Curator at NYU’s Fales Library & Special Collections. She co-curated the exhibitions XFR STN (2013) and Occupied Territory: A New Museum Trilogy (2014), and her writing has appeared in Archive Journal, Metropolitan Archivist, and GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies.

Tara holds an MS in Library and Information Studies from Pratt Institute and a BA in Visual Arts from UC San Diego.
