Text-Only Library Guide
The Barnard Library comprises of 6 floors (LL-5) within the Milstein Center for Teaching Learning. Every floor is accessible through the use of elevators (two) and various stairwells (some which require ID card access).
Building Orientation
The main entrance to the library is located on floor 1 from the Barnard Campus. There is also an entrance to the library on LL from Claremont Avenue (this entrance requires ID card access). Additionally, the Milstein Center can be accessed through the tunnels on LL (which connect the Milstein Center, Diana, Altschul, Barnard Hall, and Milbank) and through the Altschul connection on the 7th floor of Altschul which connects to the 5th floor of the Milstein Center.
Reserved Seating on Floor 1
On the first floor of Milstein, 12 seats are available for reservation. These seats can be accessed through the main entrance on the Barnard Campus.
Once you enter the main entrance on floor 1, you will be directly facing west. Immediately northeast are two seats, MLC-1-S and MLC-2-S, each with their own round table. These two seats face east. From there, moving northwest will guide you to three seats all along a single long table, MLC-5-S, MLC-6-S, and MLC-7-S. These three seats all face south. Further north are two more seats with two individual desks, MLC-3-S and MLC-4-S. These two seats face east. If you begin moving west, and then turn south, you will approach three seats with three individual desks, MLC-8-S, MLC-9-S, and MLC-10-S. These three seats face south. Moving southeast, will bring you to three seats all along a single long table, MLC-11-S, MLC-12-S, and MLC-13-S. These three seats face north. If you continue moving east, there will be three more seats with with individual round tables. The seats form a triangle, with MLC-15-S as the most western point, MLC-14-S as the southeastern point, and MLC-16-S as the northeastern point. These three seats face east. Moving north will bring you back to the entrance where you began.

This floor of the MLC can be accessed internally through the use of elevators/stairwells, externally through the entrance from Claremont Ave, and through the tunnels coming in from either direction from Barnard Hall (towards the south) and Altschul (towards the north).
If you enter at the East using the tunnel from Altschul you will arrive at the ‘Ina R. & Howard J. Drew Conference Center which consists of the three meeting rooms (LL 016-18). Walking south, the elevators and the wheelchair accessible gender-neutral and men’s restroom can be found. Towards the south-west of the meeting rooms is the entrance/exit to Claremont Avenue. South of the meeting rooms will lead you to the space consisting of the classrooms and the movement lab. At the end of this corridor, towards Barnard Hall, is where the women’s restroom and water fountains are located.

The main entrance at Floor 1 from Barnard’s campus will lead you directly to Library lobby and Exhibit Wall. Northeast of the Exhibit Wall is the Information Desk. To the left of the Information Desk is a short corridor. Going up this corridor to the north will bring you past group study room 112 and seminar rooms 113 and 111, located on the east side. West of the seminar rooms are a set of doors. Past these doors on the north side wall are a couple elevators. Continuing west, past the elevators and another set of doors will lead you to another short corridor running perpendicular to you. Turning north up the corridor will reveal the Media Center Production Studio 105C on the west side. Turning south down the corridor will reveal the Media Center Post Production room 105, also on the west side. Continuing south, you will pass open study spaces on the east side. As you continue south, you will pass the Design Center 104, Digital Humanities Center 103, and Empirical Reasoning Center 102, all located adjacent to each other on the west side wall. If you continue walking south past the Empirical Reasoning Center, you will enter a short corridor. Water fountains and bathrooms are on the east side of this corridor. If you go back north, to the east of the Empirical Reasoning Center is Peet's Coffee Shop. Going east past Peet's Coffee Shop, you will arrive at group study room 118. Adjacent to the group study room, towards the south, is seminar room 119. Across from the seminar room, to the west, is group study room 125. South of this group study room is the Center for Engaged Pedagogy 126 and the Center for Engaged Pedagogy Office 127. If you go north from here, and north of the group study and seminar rooms, you will pass open study spaces on the east side until you are back in the library lobby in front of Exhibit Wall.

If you take the stairs located to the north of Peet’s on L1 up to Floor 2, you will arrive at the main library lobby. This is where you will find the Circulation Desk (to your left as you come up the stairs). Walking south from the circulation desk and through the turnstiles you will find the Zines Library on the west side. Continuing south, without turning into the Zines Library, you will find computers and a scanner east of you. Continuing down the path between the Zines Library and the computers, you will pass shelves of books and other media until you reach the south wall of this room. Now, if you face west, you will find the PawPrint station. Turning around and going east will bring you to past open study spaces and to the east side wall of large windows. Going north alongside this wall, you will encounter an entrance to the Outdoor Terrace. Moving northwest and around the open study spaces, you can exit through the turnstiles to arrive back at the main library lobby. If you continue north, passing an external staircase on your west side, group study rooms 226 and 227 will appear on the east. Continuing north even more to enter a short corridor, Library Instruction Lab 225 will also appear on the east. Northwest of the Library Instruction Lab 225 entrance is a water fountain and a few bathrooms. Southwest of the Library Instruction Lab 225, or directly west of group study room 227, is a set of doors. Past these doors and to the north are a couple of elevators. Without entering the elevators, still moving north, you can exit another set of doors to arrive at the IMATS Equipment Checkout 220B. Going west beyond the IMATS Equipment Checkout 220B will bring you to a corridor of library administrative offices running perpendicular to you. Room 217 should be directly in front of you. Towards the north, room numbers increase up to 224, and towards the south room numbers will decrease down to 203.

If you arrive at the 3rd Floor through the elevators, turning east and continuing past a set of doors will bring you to a study space. Along the south wall are group study rooms. From west to east the group study rooms are numbered 325, 324, and 323. If you do not enter these group study rooms, there are various individual study desks, including standing desks, that can be used within the space. Moving to the north wall of this study space, you will encounter two more group study rooms. From west to east the group study rooms are numbered 314 and 315. Southwest of these group study rooms are restrooms and a water fountain. If you continue back towards the southwest corner of this study space, you will arrive back at the doors to the elevator. Passing these doors and going west of the elevators through another set of doors will bring you to a room full of books and other media. Moving south will bring you to a PawPrint station and scanner. Moving northwest between shelves of books will bring you to various Personal Librarian Offices. Office room numbers increase south to north.

If you arrive at the 4th Floor through the elevators, turning east and continuing past a set of doors will bring you to face the Archives and Special Collections Reading Room 423. Adjacent to the Archives and Special Collections Reading Room 423 on the north side is the Archives Office 222. Across from the Archives Office 222 towards the west you can find a water fountain and bathrooms. Tracing your path back to the elevators, if you move west past the elevators and a set of doors, you will be facing the Athena Center. Turning and moving south, you will find a PawPrint station and a scanner. Turning the next left corner towards the east you should find an open study space. North of this open study space is a room with a set of stairs that is supplied with prayer rugs and yoga mats. Exiting this room and moving south west you will find shelves of books and other media, and study spaces. Towards the east is Meeting Room 402. Adjacent to Meeting Room 402 and to the south is the entrance to the Outdoor Terrace. Without entering the Outdoor Terrace area, if you continue south, you will eventually reach the Barnard FLIP Library.

If you arrive at the 5th Floor through the elevators, turning east and continuing past a set of doors will bring you to the CSC Classroom 516. Across from the CSC Classroom 516 to the west is a water fountain. Just north of the water fountain are a few bathrooms. Northeast of the bathrooms is the CSC Lounge 514. If you go to the northeast corner of this room , you will reach the passage to Altschul. The fifth floor of the MLC is connected to Altschul floor 7. Returning back to the elevators, southwest of the CSC Lounge 514, and moving west, you will encounter a hallway running perpendicular to you. To the south is the CS/Math Collaboration Space 502 with a PawPrint station. Entering this room and then turning east will bring you to the Outdoor Terrace entrance. If you don't enter the CS/Math Collaboration Space 502, and instead move north, you will encounter various offices. The office room numbers increase as you move north.
